Nyingchung Monastery is located approximately three to four miles from the renowned Namgung Monastery (Namgung Jangchub Ling), situated within the famous Tramdar Monastery in the Dolpo region. This monastery serves as a notable meditation center for the principal spiritual leaders of Namgung Monastery.

In the 19th century, Nyinchung Ogyen Chösang, recognized this mountain hermitage as an ideal location for yogic practice. He found it perfectly suited for physical well-being and inner meditation, particularly for developing combined calm abiding and insight meditation. During his extended stay, he established a meditation community that gradually evolved into a formal meditation center.

His direct disciple, Meditation Master Trinley Chöphel, also resided here for an extended period, nurturing students. Subsequently, Nyinchung Ogyen Tenzin Rinpoche, son of Shelri Ogyen Tenzin Rabgye, gained spiritual accomplishments here and achieved widespread recognition.

Rinpoche served the faithful across Dolpo's inner and outer regions, Lowo, Northern Plateau, and Mukhum, providing spiritual guidance, medicinal support, blessings, and prophetic teachings. After the passing of Nyinchung Rinpoche, although the monastery fell into ruins over several years, recently Nyinchung Dungse Rinpoche has undertaken its restoration with tireless effort, and is now managing it.
